Synopsizes
Calendar
Directed by: Atom Egoyan
An Armenian-Canadian photographer (Egoyan) was hired to photograph Armenian churches for a calendar; he brings his wife (Arsinee Khanjian, Egoyan's real life wife) as translator; she falls in love with and leaves him for their driver/guide. In a series of flash-forwards, the photographer stages identical dinners with several women, who pretend to talk on the phone while he writes. His wife, now estranged from him, leaves repeated messages on his answering machine, asking why he never contacts her. Yet another thought-provoking look into strange, intertwined relationships from the always enigmatic Egoyan.
Return to the Promised Land
Directed by: Harutyun Khachatryan
For many ages the Armenian nation, having no statehood, has concentrated all its values in the family and made it the center of the national spirit. The main characters of the film arrived in northern Armenia and not from paradise. They are refugees who escaped from violence. Both of them are young. The woman is pregnant. They create a world around themselves, and thus create themselves.
Documentarist
Directed by: Harutyun Khachatryan
The main hero of the film is the documentary film director, who shoots film with small crew and looks through various plots. His film is compiled of the mosaic of diverse materials, presenting the image of our time and Armenia of the 90s. Children-beggars, disable children left by the parents, newly born children, lost refugees, homeless dogs, which had been shot without pity…Tragedy of society in transition and transitive time…And hope born out of despair…
Lord have mercy
Directed by: Vigen Chaldranyan
The action of this film takes place in the early 1990's in Yerevan. The hero - an actor and film-director - tries to live, ignoring the everyday petty struggles for survival. Unfortunately he becomes involved, against his will, in a whirlpool of dull dramas and tragedies. This is a story of an artist in quarrel with his times and society. It is difficult to classify the film Lord Have Mercy into narrow category of genre.
Mariam
Directed by: Edgar Baghdasaryan
Young woman Mariam, who works in a boarding school for deaf-and-dumb children as a gesture translator, comes to the psychologist with strange problem - weird things happen to her in her own flat. Strong light appears from nowhere which makes all the glass in the house crack and a strange voice accompanies it. Psychologist begins to doubt about the making diagnosis " Schizophrenia".
Then what's going on with this woman in the reality? Does she really need a psychologist? Or does the psychologist need help himself? Perhaps the help of different kind...
